[Staging] Incognito Privacy V2 upgrade

Important note: the staging version is used only for testing purpose on Incognito testnet, don’t try it with mainnet now since we haven’t deployed the privacy v2 protocol to mainnet yet. You can see how to switch to using testnet on the app in the following video.

Hey Incognito community,

I believe you’ve learned to Privacy V2 in the series, this is the biggest upgrade of Incognito platform so far. We’re delighted to announce you can now experience it on the staging version of the Incognito app.

The new Incognito app version could be found at

There are a few changes in the app that requires you to do if you want to use features smoothly:

  • Coins conversion - since Privacy protocol has been changed completely, you need to convert coins in your accounts from the old to a new format. This will take some time to finish, in case the process is dropped before finishing for some reason (e.g. the app is killed, the phone runs out of battery, etc), you can restart it at any time, it will continue its work for the unconverted coins.

  • Coins consolidation - this is not a new feature but it didn’t support pToken consolidation before. Now in the new app version, you can consolidate your unspent coins for both PRV and pTokens.

Along with the obvious changes above, the upgrade (in protocol and backend infrastructure) also helps improve significantly user experience in the app with faster transaction creation (send and trade), more comprehensive information (transaction history/detail) as well as stuck situation eliminated (by removing the need of intermediary accounts on trade). Additionally, the core features such as shield, trade, and unshield should also benefit from the upgrade mainly in terms of privacy and reliability.

The following is an intuitive tutorial that will walk you through how to finish the required tasks on the staging app (and testnet)

That’s it for now, thanks for being patient, the new level of Incognito’s privacy is finally here, please treat using the staging version as a rehearsal before the official release, this is a big change, so it’s always helpful for Incognito users to understand what’s changing, how to use it as well as for Incognito core dev team to find out issues as soon as possible. Feel free to share your thoughts in the comment below or reach out to us @Support, we would really appreciate it.

Note: In order for you to experience coins conversion, please contact us @Support, we will provide you accounts having the old format coins on testnet so that you can convert them to the new format coins yourself.
